项楚先生《佛教与中国古代文学的发展（提要）》一文肯定了佛教对中国古代文学的发展所起的重要作用，即佛教的影响造就了唐以后文学的多样形态：首先，佛教的传播促进了用口语写作，开启了中国通俗文学的文脉；其次，佛教的输入和传播改变了唐以后文学体裁、题材和思想等方面的风貌。这种观点对当下中国古代文学，尤其是唐宋文学的深广研究仍具有重要的学术意义。

In Buddhism and the Development of Ancient Chinese Literature(A Summary),Professor Xiang Chu affirms Buddhism's significant role in shaping Chinese literature. He argues that Buddhist dissemination promoted the use of vernacular language in writing,thus initiating the tradition of Chinese popular literature, and that the introduction and spread of Buddhist thought fundamentally altered literary genres,themes,and ideologies after the Tang dynasty. This perspective remains of vital scholarly importance for deep investigations into ancient Chinese literature,especially of the Tang and Song periods.
